Robotic Prostatectomy

Home > Patient Care > Robotic Prostatectomy

A world leader in robotic prostatectomy, the OSU James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is one of the nation’s premier cancer centers for performing robotic prostatectomies and one of the nation’s leading robotic training centers for physicians and surgeons trained in the use of the da Vinci Robotics Surgical System. In 2006, Ohio State trained 19 surgical teams from around the world. We also recently hosted the 2007 World Robotic Urology Symposium.

The internationally recognized robotic prostatectomy team has one of the world’s largest experience in robotic surgery and is lead by Ronney Abaza, MD, director of Robotic Urologic Surgery at Ohio State.

Robotic prostatectomy incorportaes the latest advancements in robotic-assisted technology and allows a surgeon greater visualization, enhanced dexterity, precision and control.  Patients who undergo this surgery experience faster recovery times, less blood loss, less pain and shorter hospital stays. In fact, most patients go home with 24 hours of the surgery.
